Technology/Where ARE U
THE OFFICIAL 112 APP IN ITALY
Where ARE U is the official European Emergency Number App. It revolutionises emergency calls by directly localising the caller position through the phone’s GPS and automatically sending it to the PSAP. Thanks to special icons, the caller can silently requested help through SMS. Where ARE U also includes a personal profile page detailing any useful information on the caller, including emergency contact and any relevant information that the caller wishes to disclose.
½ BETA 80 AND WHERE ARE U,
½Beta 80 developed Where ARE U, the only official Italian 112 app active on the Italian territory covered by 112 PSAPs. The app, which can easily be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play stores, makes locating the caller easier by leveraging your smarthphone GPS technology. In this way, citizens can send their data quickly, securely and precisely.
Personal data and emergency contact details can be set in the app. The information is automatically sent to the PSAP when a call is made. Where Are U also lets users make silent calls. With a special function, the caller who cannot or is unable to verbally communicate can send their request for help to the PSAP.
½ RESCUE WITH A TOUCH
½Further and create a single network of apps. Increase the success of 112 interventions.
½Beta 80 continually perfects the localisation service.
½112 Where ARE U is the only official Italian 112 app. It is found in all regions that have put the 112 services into operation following the Ministry of the Interior’s directive, and is the only app natively integrated with all 112 systems.
And abroad? Where ARE U is an integral part of an international network of apps that is taking its first steps toward becoming a European reality soon. There are many apps like Where Are U in Europe. However, they are often limited to the country of origin’s borders. To get a single global network of apps, EENA has created a work group that sees to giving this requirement an answer within the European project NEXES. Beta 80 gave its contribution to the initiative through AREU, the body that manages the 112 number in the Lombardy region, which is a member of the project.
