Iper Montebello SpA is the operational holding company of the Iper Group, with subsidiaries operating in large-scale retailing. The Group is one of the major and most dynamic large-scale retail companies in Italy, and has premises of over 300,000 square metres inside covered commercial areas. The management of information is particularly complex, given the presence of several different information systems that supply different ways of seeing the same information (logistics view and operational view). In addition, reconciliations with historical data need to be managed. The concrete danger is that one might find oneself faced with the paradox of having an enormous amount of information but not being able to interpret it because of the heterogeneous nature of the sources. There is an urgent need to be able to interpret information unambiguously and objectively.


In this context, the possibility to achieve the following was a strategic choice for IPER information systems:

  • guaranteeing quality of data
  • supporting the definition of sales and logistic policies, and monitoring their performance
  • monitoring logistics and the sales area through a single console, with the certainty of high control of information flows
  • integrating data coming in from different sources: text, AS/400, departmental management files, Oracle, etc.


Beta 80 Group created the Oracle Data Integrator implementation project. In the context of this project, thirty data sources belonging to six different information systems were integrated. The following operations were carried out:

  • creation of a single web console for automatic control of data loading and quality. Sinopsis functions were used, with proactive alerting system by email in the case of breakdowns
  • implementation of a logistic data warehouse in near real-time, making possible even complex analyses of same-day data. In this way, policies aimed at improving and optimizing logistics are supported promptly
  • consolidation of purchase data for subsequent sending to the contracts application for managing supplier premium.
